I decided that with my birthday in the immenant future, I should probably look back at the last few months and make some comments.

Tim Pawlenty won re-election to the horror of conservatives, but not the Republican party. Looking at the returns, many many people tossed aside good candidates like Mark Kennedy and Mary Kiffmyer by large margins in order to vote FOR pawlenty. This either makes two points in the state. Either Minnesotans are vastly liberal (which I know they aren't) and view pawlenty as liberal or not quite as insane as Mike Hatch, or there was some serious election fraud. No poll ever put Amy Klobuchar ahead of Mark Kennedy by the numbers that were shown on election day, this either means the pollsters of Minnesota needs to rework their percentage of error to 20% or there was a serious problem at the polls. I'll let the readers ponder that thought.

It is snowing more in Minnesota now that it has all year. Global Warming my ass. However I have dealt with the specifics of this topic before and would kindly redirect your attention that way.

Final Fantasy 12 is a very solid game, not so much as previous title's, but the story hasn't let me down so far. The new Zelda is near perfect in every way.

Much to my delight, World of Warcraft, the Burning Crusade was released. Almost as good as I had hoped, but seriously lacking in many areas as I expected.

Thus the world continues, as do I. Look out Bloggers, I have returned

The Minimum Wage -or- The Living Wage

There is a myth that circulates in people's heads that there is somehow a wage that can be set that makes everyone able to afford everything without hurting anyone. I battled with one of these on MPR's blog and she of course refused to call it a minimum wage in favor of the "Living Wage". We see these word games all the time and that is the subject of another blog all together. Let us just focus on the basic here.

It was her assertion that people like Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, and every other self made millionaire out there was physically doing harm to people who made less money than they did. Yes, a physical harm, kind of like how Ronald Reagan was said to have snuck out of the White House and ate hobo's meals. When I asked the question how they were doing this I never got a straight answer, but it always came back to a "living wage". The sad truth is there will always be people who don't make enough money for all their wants. Another sad truth is there will almost always in 100% of people's lives be someone with more money than them (Bill Gates was poor once folks). So here is the deal, should these people be penalized for making money? If Bill Gates was only able to retain 10% of the wealth he accumulated over the years, do you think he would have founded all the divisions in Microsoft? Would we have Windows XP right now? The problem with creating such a high tax burden is that you make success a penalty when you could just cruise where you are now with no benefit, but no harm either. I personally wouldn't switch to a job with more responsibility and more risk to make only 10% more than I am making now. There is no incentive in it.

But then there is the living wage, which is defined as a wage by which everyone gets what the need (need being defined as want here folks, these people aren't even honest enough to say that a car, a TV, Cable, health insurance, et al is a want and not a need). So I pose the question, if everyone needs a living wage, how do we achieve it? Do we subsidize out of tax dollars? We then run into the previous paragraphs problem of people no longer wanting to achieve wealth because they are taxed at a ridiculous rate. Plus we know that the economy suffers when people and corporations are taxed at a very high rate.

Do we push the cost of the new wage onto the business owners? This is well noted as there is an increase in unemployment and a drop in jobs created every time there is a minimum wage increase. Aside from that illegal immigrants are exempted from federal and state wage rules thus they are hired on the side at a lower than regulated rate and take even more jobs that Americans want. The big myth here is that illegal immigrants take jobs Americans don't want when the truth is they take jobs Americans can't afford. Business owners have to chose between paying $8-$10 for an American citizen (that is minimum wage plus the other expenses need in hiring and retaining an employee) or $3-$4 for an illegal immigrant. You can say "Well I would hire the American" every day of the week but when it comes down to your business and your bottom line you will hire the illegal, don't kid anyone here.

The other problem with the minimum wage is this; If $5.15, the current federal minimum wage is not enough, then why is $10 any better, or $20? Hell why don't we just make everyone get $50 per hour and then we will all be rich! The reason is 2 fold. First, not everyone is worth $50 and hour, you are paid what you are worth. If everyone was mandated to pay that kind of money, there would be a lot of jobs cut because only the best people, the most motivated people would be hired. The second reason is because it is an artificial inflation. When a business is deciding it's prices it must choose between profit for the owner, stockholders and alike, and it's operating expenses. They need to always remain competitively priced or else they go out of business. So we are faced with 3 possibilities with a large wage increase:

1. The most unlikely, the business will raise prices to cover the cost of the new labor. In this scenario it is usually a high wage increase like doubling of the minimum wage as all his competition is doing the same. All the sudden that $2 gallon of gas now has doubled it's labor cost and is now $3 a gallon. That new minimum wage isn't quite as much as it was before and in most cases the artificial inflation eats up more than the wage gained. A loss for the business in a minor way but even worse for the new minimum wage employees.

2. The business is able to absorb the cost operating at slimmer profit margins. This would happen only with minor minimum wage increases. However for large corporations like Wal-Mart, McDonalds, and Best Buy, their profit's would drop substantially and thus look much worse to investors. The investors would start pulling out of the market reducing capital in the market and would invariably create a depression worse than that of the 1930's. Bad for business in a big way, even worse for the employee's who are all laid off because the big bad corporations couldn't stay in business.

3. The most likely scenario plays out that companies place hiring freezes into effect and lay off some employee's. It reduces their payroll and then they simply keep the most productive employee's. This is the best option for business and the worst for employee's. This is also the option that grabs the most illegal immigrants in for the unskilled professions because they are under the radar again and replacing hard working Americans.

Every time the minimum wage is increased we see these exact things happen. Each of the 3 happen and usually the companies that do 1 and 2 end up out of business. 3 usually happens more often because businesses know how to run their business and they prefer to stay in the black.

Minimum wage laws create artificial inflation, hurt business, hurt the economy, hurt employees, and cause unemployment. They must be repealed.

I'm back

After a very exhausting foray into the mind of the liberals and their elitest attitudes I am back to my own blog. I am very excited and interested going forward especially with a lot of the progress that has been made in the recent few weeks including the ousting of Dean Johnson.

A couple things I learned about liberals in the time I was there. They hate being challenged. I told one of them "...that's a lie and you know it..." and when I went to the election night party I was assaulted by his wife telling me how horrible of a person I am for calling him a liar and then I received the pedigree of him, his wife, and every last one of their children. If you are reading this dear Mrs. Stattmiller, I really don't give a flying fuck how long you, your husband, or any of your brats went to school for. It really doesn't matter because I am still more intelligent than any of them, and at least I can hold a reasonable position with facts and back my position up where your husband can't.

But the biggest lesson I learned is that liberals are jealous and vindictive. On the site there was a commentator who went beyond the call of insulting me and used some very personal information that I only shared with the previously mentioned blogger and his wife. It is very insightful to know that they can use their friends and/or children to attack someone but don't have the mental stability to do it themselves.

The other bloggers were mostly kind and all in all, were fairly fun. One didn't even participate until election day, which was rather dissapointing because he was a total freak and would have been fun to tear apart.

A fun experience to say the least and I will move up to the next level here with some more stimulating debate.

The blog is up!

I will be blogging at MPR for the next month, month and a half or there abouts:

http://minnesota.publicradio.org/collections/special/columns/special/2006/undecided/

Check it out!

What's wrong with Hugo?

So Hugo Chavez goes out blasting the president at the UN. Like most pompous dictators he got a standing ovation from the rest of the world oppressors. What does this say about him? Well he obviously can't accept that a country like America is free to elect someone he doesn't like, unlike his country where he seized power in a vastly fraudulent election.

But the topper to the story is this...Charles Rangel came out blasting Chavez for his comments...Sort of. He spent 2 minutes kissing Hugo's rear end and about 2 seconds criticizing him. The only thing I find more odd is the silence on the behalf of the Republican party. But In all fairness, criticizing Bush is one of Charles biggest pass times so it is no wonder he didn't want to sound like a maniacal crazy dictator.

Thought of the Day

Radical Rosie O'Donnelism is as much a threat as Radical Islam.

That is all

The party is over

I have been thinking about ej's comments and while I am sure he wont visit me again, I do know this...He accuses me of acting like a democrat and then tells me that because I am not backing the endorsed candidate and defying the endorsed candidate by campaigning against him, I cannot possibly be anything but a democrat. It amazes me at the hipocracy of this statement. The party that claims the other is anything but and the resort to attacks and name calling simply isn't befitting of a true conservative. Because I don't agree with ej he simply tells me that I am a democrat. If he was true to his party, he wouldn't be assaulting me because I differ in view with him but would engage me in honest and open debate. The fact that he has not return indicates quite clearly to me that he is neither honest nor open to new ideas, and when that happens you elect people like Tim Pawlenty who are not honest, and are not open. The slide to the left progresses and then people wonder what happened to the good ole days when we had a capitalistic society and low taxes.

ej, this is a calling to you...If you believe that Sue Jeffers isn't the right candidate respond and tell me why in an honest, no name calling, debate of facts and issues. Then the president comes out and says that he is going to grant geneva rights to the terrorists. So here I am thinking that the world is going to go well and boom, the president smacks me in the forehead saying we are going to try the terrorists with all rights and privileges there in...

So my question today is when do we begin to clean up our dead? You know that some judge is going to let one of these bastards out and boom, literally. Seeing as the military papers are telling pro-troop groups to get the hell out, it seems only logical one is going let a terrorist out. When the terrorists realize that they will live in comfy cozy quarters for the rest of their life because they are given geneva rights they will reign down on us a fury that has never been seen. It is not a question of if, but now when.

It wasn't us, really!

Moveon.org had some posters to their forums posting in very hateful speach against jews and joe lieberman. Now to many people it would seem quite logical that the group that is so anti-war would dislike Joe with a passion would resort to their kind of hate filled speech. But the kicker of course, the absolute great line of the story, was this:

He added that most of the comments were not made by MoveOn members and suggested it could be an effort by conservatives to "target" the group, and said any effort to tie the rants to MoveOn was "wrong."

Yes, because we all know how much conservatives hate the Jews, especially Joe Lieberman

Libertarian, what, who?

Normally someone like like ej's comments I would have deleted simply because he cannot seem to put together a good coherent thought without resulting to personal attacks and anger as a resolve. Sue will win the primary. But I wanted to address some core concerns of his that moved me. He claimed that Minnesota politics will become more divided than ever, The problem is that they are already divided. Most of the people voting for Sue WILL NOT be voting for pawlenty. It is not my fault he could not keep conservative values.

But I really love the attack that this is a state where conservatives get voted out. Norm Coleman ran on a conservative ticket and won. Tim Pawlenty ran on a conservative ticket and won. 1/2 of the House and Senate ran on a conservative ticket and won. Mark Kennedy is running on a conservative ticket and will win. Conservatism wins every time it is run and when you are forced to decide between a liberal like Hatch or a liberal like pawlenty, you are then relegated to a moot vote. Voting for hatch or voting for pawlenty is pretty much one in the same.

Let me make this clear, I have no plans of voting for hatch, but after the slew of very personal insults that pawlenty threw at me at the state fair last year, and his policies of tax and spend, I will not vote for him either.

Oh, and to EJ who couldn't figure out the very simply comment system, you post your comments AFTER the post you are commenting on, not before it.

To Promote?

As usualy my life is a triumph of politics 24 hours a day and this week has been no difference. However one thing sticks out in my mind that I want to expand on. I had a discussion with my parents regarding Sue Jeffers. The discussion had many points but there is one that I wanted to touch on briefly. They made the statement that Sue needed to make herself aware to non-politically aware people. Now my parents do not share much of my core conservative and intellectual prowess so this didn't strike me as too odd, however the fact that they wanted to be told that there was an alternative did strike me. Now, I am of the camp that voting is not a privilage that should be shared with the populace. People who come in an vote because one candidate "looks better" or because they are male/female/AFCIO/white/black/whatever is just plain retarded. I have never voted solely on party lines and neither should anyone else. I remember the first election I ever went to was a school board election. I went in with no clue who anyone was and I voted but felt very stupid afterwards. I had never heard of anyone and voted fairly randomly. It was then that I realized I need to study who is on the ballot beforehand. The next election had a couple dozen judges of which I knew each one and who I wanted to vote for. There was no confusion as to who was good or who was bad. I knew because I had to study. Now there is the side point here that Minnesota prevents judges from running a true political election campaign or get endorsements so this is different but the same remains that I knew who every person was on that ballot and where they stood.

So the question is, should a political candidate be forced to shove themselves in front of voters? This particular laziness is not the candidates problem and by ignoring choices when they are available and actually doing some homework you negate your vote and encourage incumbancy. Aside from this it ensures that only the super rich, those who can get large contributions, throw huge fund raisers, and get endorsements are the only ones who will get into office. The problem with this is the stupid people, the ones who don't want to have to do anything other than show up, get incredible power to act like idiots. They are allowed to vote for someone of which they know nothing about. They could be voting for someone who has pledged to exterminate all the jews and yet they have not done the due diligence to figure out the stance of the person they are voting for.

Now the standard response is that we need spending limits and money removed from politics. Hogwash. First, the ability to spend money to buy ad's and campaign materials is fundamental to obtaining political office. If you limit the ability of a campaign to spend money how they see fit, you eliminate a lot of things like yard signs, bumper stickers, and many other little freebies that people get in order to promote a candidate. Second and more importantly, the ability to buy ad time or buy public functions to speak is a fundamental right...Congress shall make no law...

Now for the solution. A small, easy test before you can vote. Every candidate on the ballot is listed, you must correctly identify their party and what office they are running for. To appease the liberals and the lazy (usually one in the same) everyone will still be allowed to vote, however only those who score 90% or better on the test get their votes circular filed.

Sue Sue Sue!

Today I realized that tim pawlenty is hated by democrats as much as Bush... It has been quite interesting at points, and others quite absurd. For example the claim that we should not blow up an asteroid that would eliminate life on earth because it would create many more smaller asteroids that would cause massive damage. That's all fine and good, let's just all die rather than let a few buildings be destroyed. Especially if you blew up an asteroid into many smaller peices much of it would burn up in the atmosphere. But that wasn't what spurred me to write.

Al Gore is blathering on about global warming. Of course ABC does it's dues to show the reasons why global warming isn't true...Oh wait it's over and they never even mentioned it. In fact they insisted that there is no discussion about whether global warming exists. They compare scientists and people who refute the "reality of golbal warming" to holocaust denyers. These people have resorted to name calling and threats to make people silent. It is a sad day indeed.

Out of the blue

Some of you may have wondered where I have been. Sue is running against governor Pawlenty for the Republican Party ticket spot for the November election. On September 12th the primary election will be held to decide between Sue Jeffers and current Governor Tim Pawlenty. If you don't know about Sue, she is a business owner in Minneapolis who first made the political spotlight in her opposition to the smoking ban in Minneapolis. She was the leader of a coalition of business owners who felt that their ability to run their own business was under assault. She has since realized that this is not just a Republican or Democrat issue as Republicans aren't the lesser of two evils; instead a Republican is the worst of two evils - big government with no opposition. She has a full list of issue's on her website http://www.suejeffers.org/issues.php, please check it out and vote for her. Primary elections tend to be low in voters and she needs all the help she can get, and so does the great state of Minnesota! With a turnout of less than 100,000 people expected, we can propel Sue to the front of the ticket and show the Big Spending, Big Government, Liars in the Republican party that we are fed up with the same "Good ole boy" politics!

Please pass this on if you have had pawlenty of "fee's", pawlenty of taxes, pawlenty of the lies, and pawlenty of Pawlenty

"Big"gots

Supposed I said to you that Big Child Care was driving up the cost to watch your children, or that Big Pizza was gouging you on your Large Pepperoni Pizzas. You would look at me like a mad man. But why has it becomes accepted that "Big" Oil, "Big" Tobacco, "Big" Cable and on and on and on, have become some kind of bad entity? When did "Big" becomes equal to "Bad"? Last I remember Microsoft is one of the biggest entities in the world, and yet they aren't "Big" OS or "Big" Software. Plus it is not even an implication that all these companies are in something together. Oil companies fight a fierce fight over who is going to pull marketshare. "Big" is a buzzword to make you think that somehow bigger is badder when the exact opposite is true.

Big companies like Walmart get so much scorn from liberal organizations who think that the only business that should exist is small business. The reason liberals cling to small businesses is because they will never accumulate wealth at any substantial rate. If you take a leap and open 3 or 4 new stores over the state, you get bigger. Bigger is better for you because you now are making more money and better for the consumer because your products are both more available and the bigger discounts you can pull by being a larger company.

Whoa

Alrighty......

My absence was probably hardly noticed but I think that I have to get back into the groove. Political season is in swing and things are happening. Now, the local radio scenes has changed a lot in the last month or so. A lot of programs I liked switched around, left, or changed stations thus I am scrambling to figure out who I am going to listen to at any given time. Torn. I like to listen to Rush Limbaugh from time to time as he makes some good points, usually after I have made them, but good points none the less. So I have tried listening to the station he is now on. It drives me insane. They have almost exclusively two personalities on each program. Fair and balanced or some such bull. I do like it, but for them to have five programs every day like that, just not my thing. Especially when some of them are retarded and will quite often resort to a "OMG BUSH=HITLER+KKK!!!!!111".

But as I listen, I hear some of the dumbest people call in. One such person suggested a boycott of gas station goods aside from gas. He wants us to buy only gas from gas stations and nothing else. So these businesses will complain and lower gas prices because no one is paying for anything besides gas....sounds like a great plan? I know, I used those same words. First, this plan, especially in the state of Minnesota, means nothing to gas stations. There is a mandatory 6% markup on gasoline in the state by law, thus the gas station owners are making money on the gas. Second, it makes the assumption that gas station owners won't INCREASE their prices to make up for the lost revenues from the other goods. Now, while there may be competition between gas stations, if they are all losing money, they will all raise prices. This plan makes me baffled that some people are allowed to operate in the business world.

I have stumbled onto a group of people that cannot fathom economics. I have never taken an economics course. I have never studied economics in depth. I did study history and historical trends and when one thing happens, another thing happens, such as tax cuts and economic stimulus. Now, there is something that happens when people like this are allowed to infiltrate the ranks of normal people. They destroy businesses. Ken Lay is one of these people and look at what happened. These same people are the ones who suggest boycotting certain gas stations because it will signify that oil from x country isn't what the American people want. But I digress...

Gas prices what they are, people seem to be taking all the roads but the right one. You have the government figureheads running around screaming "Gouging" and "Price Fixing" and "Monopoly". You have the common man saying that it is OPEC's fault. You also have the people saying that it is good because people will change their driving habits. The people all seem to not understand the basic price for gas.....DEMAND!!!

There is a map here showing the cost by county for the entire country. Take a look at it. If the cost of gas was really a constant and mattered in either of the peoples comments above, it would be as diverse as it is. There are 3 things that are driving gasoline prices and no one seems to be talking about them. I will clear them up now.

1. Too many states have different requirements for "clean gas". California has much stricter standards for the quality of their gas, more additives, lower emissions and thus add to the cost of the fuel plus since California is the only state to require such additives, the cost goes way up because they have a high demand, but only a few refineries can produce it. Meanwhile, states like Idaho, Wyoming, and Montana have low requirements for petrol production and are clustered together using the same type of gasoline thus making it easy to produce and ship. Minnesota currently has a low requirement for fuel additives versus our neighbors in Wisconsin and have a lower gasoline price because of it. However we will join California prices very soon when the ethanol requirement goes to a minimum of 20% (thus destroying everyone's car engines too...Did you know it takes more energy to produce ethanol than it generates? More on that later).

2. There is a low supply of petrol across the nation even though there is an ample supply of oil. The oil cost of gasoline is but a tiny fraction of the cost. Only half the cost is crude oil. Over 40% goes to taxes and refineries in about a 50/50 split between them. The cost in taxes is about 60 cents on a $3 a gallon gasoline. Boot the government and gas comes down a lot, especially since the gasoline tax is spent on things that aren't even close to being associated with gasoline. Also, boost the refineries that can open, remove envirowacko policies that are preventing people from opening new businesses to compete. That 20+% of the refining costs will quickly drop to 2-5%. Boom, instantly we are over $1 per gallon less than we were before. Then we just need to hurt the oil traders.

If you don't understand this after reading it a couple times, please do the world a favor and sell your car and live in a hippie enclave.

Even Arnold hates me

Ummm...when did I become the public hated enemy?

To my readers

I apologize for inferior posting abilities as of late. This is a particularly difficult opinion to have, especially if you are the kind of person who likes to put bumper stickers on his car. Supporting the troops is a position that even Calvin is unwilling to urinate on.

I'm sure I'd like the troops. They seem gutsy, young and up for anything. And thanks to Washington, 2006 could be even worse.

The feds did not waste any time, with two costly gasoline requirements having taken effect on January 1st. That’s right. The year has already begun with two new regulations that will raise the price at the pump.

The first is the new ethanol mandate -- part of the massive energy bill passed last August. Under the new law, 4 billion gallons of this corn-derived fuel additive will have to be included in the nation’s gasoline supply throughout 2006.

Ethanol costs more than gasoline (if it didn’t, its producers would not need federal help) -- and its use reduces fuel economy. The new mandate is great news for some well-connected special interests, namely Midwestern corn farmers and big ethanol producers like Archer Daniels Midland (ADM). But those who are stuck paying the tab -- you -- will be far less thrilled.

Please make special note of this. Ethanol if sold per gallon, is the same price as a bottle of top shelf Vodka. The true cost of ethanol is about $20 per gallon once everything is factored in. There is no evidence that it burns any cleaner than gasoline, and in many people realize the uselessness of ethanol. But the fun doesnt stop here...

Over the past ten years, the EPA has imposed a bewildering variety of fuel requirements, with as many as 18 so-called boutique fuels in use at any given time. The cost and complexity of this scheme goes well beyond any rational clean air justification. Granted, air quality has been improving, but it was doing so just as quickly before these newfangled fuel requirements were imposed.

The new ethanol and sulfur rules may each add several cents to the price per gallon -- bad enough, but it’s the cumulative burden of all these federal regulations that is even more substantial.

The fuel regulations will continue to grow after 2006. For example, EPA is required, pursuant to a settlement of a lawsuit brought by an environmental group, to propose another round of regulations limiting the amount of benzene and similar trace components from gasoline. The regulation must be proposed by February 2006 and take effect by 2007.

So here we are, faced with the facts and blindly ignoring in the name of the environment....Let's start with jailing the ecofreaks.

Why Sydney?

A jem from Australia today about protestors who say that the forums there wont do anything to stop global warming...

GREEN groups are preparing to protest outside a climate-change conference in Sydney, arguing the forum will do nothing to halt global warming.

    But environmentalists insist their protests will be peaceful and they will not blockade the city hotel where the international conference is due to take place this week.
Prime Minister John Howard will host the first meeting of the Asia-Pacific Partnership on Clean Development and Climate, which begins in Sydney on Wednesday.

So why did they chose Sydney? (Newswise)

Not so global global warming. Interestingly, the Northern Polar region appears to have a rising trend from 1992. The Southern Polar region, however, demonstrates no clear trend, having cooled slightly. Contrary to hysterical claims this is pretty much the coup de grâce for the catastrophic anthropogenic greenhouse warming hypothesis. 'How so?' I hear people puzzling - it's actually pretty simple, let's walk through it:

the misnamed 'greenhouse effect' can be experimentally demonstrated in the lab;

logically, some warming (or not cooling) must have occurred with rising greenhouse gases;

whether this effect is sufficiently large in the real world to even be detected is moot;

anthropogenic greenhouse gases are well mixed in the atmosphere;

due to topography and population, the greatest concentration of cooling particulates is located in the Northern Hemisphere;

the cold, dry polar atmosphere has the greatest greenhouse warming potential;

the coldest, driest atmosphere is located over Antarctica;

air samples taken at the South Pole show anthropogenic greenhouse gases present at levels within a couple of parts per million of those taken elsewhere on the globe;

despite its lack of cooling particulates, the Southern Polar region shows no detectable temperature response (dose-response?) to rising anthropogenic greenhouse gases;

there is no postulated mechanism by which anthropogenic gases could cause warming in the Northern Polar region but not in the Southern Polar region;

this tells us that warming observed in the Northern Polar region is driven by something other than anthropogenic greenhouse;

since something other than anthropogenic greenhouse is driving all the observable (measurable) temperature change then we can be confident that tweaking anthropogenic emissions will have no measurable effect.

See? It needn't cost trillions of dollars to solve the greenhouse emission 'problem' after all.

More on the Ozone

Taken from Junk Science:

What about the all-important "solar shield" we hear so much about having to protect so that it will preserve us from UV bombardment? Well, not much, actually. UVA (ultraviolet radiation in the 320-400 nanometer [nm] band), which is implicated in deep skin DNA changes thought responsible for melanomas, is not blocked by ozone at all. [Note: De Fabo, et al, claim the reverse to be true for the cause of melanoma, at least in a mouse model - see: Ultraviolet B but not Ultraviolet A Radiation Initiates Melanoma. Meanwhile: Melanoma risk only partially associated with exposure to UVB from sunlight - The report in the Dec. 21 [2005] issue of the Journal of the National Cancer Institute also indicates that only nonmalignant skin cancers (basal and squamous cell carcinoma) are strongly associated with exposure to UVB radiation. (University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center)] UVB (270-320nm), which causes sunburn, is both blocked by ozone (O3) and, if allowed to penetrate the atmosphere, creates ozone lower in the atmosphere where it can be an irritant in photochemical smog - thick clouds also block UVB. UVC (<270nm),>2), in addition to ozone (O3). Regardless, life flourishes in the tropics, where stratospheric ozone levels are never high and where solar radiation bombardment is roughly 1,000 times higher than that received in the region of the Antarctic Ozone Anomaly.

What's it all mean? Basically, sunburn is the last thing Ozone Al's Patagonian sheep and backyard rabbits would have to worry about if transported under the so-called "ozone hole" in the South Pole's first light of spring. And, unless you intend sunbathing in the Antarctic in September, this seasonal event will have no effect on you at all.

Global Warming Changes Ocean Currents

55 Million years ago according to scientists.

What unleashed the PETM is unclear. Most fingers of blame point to volcanic eruptions that disgorged gigatonnes of carbon dioxide, or coastal reservoirs of methane gas, sealed by icy soil, that were breached by warmer temperatures or receding seas.

Alright, lets take a look at this. The EARTH put out more gases in 1,000 years than mankind has in it's total history on the Earth, yet somehow we are on the brink of environmental destruction. Give me a break, the plant produces the most greenhouse gases and anything we produce is miniscule compared to anything else. "One drop raises the ocean" but a single drop isnt going to cause costal flooding, same is true with the greenhouse gases.

Football Bush

Ok, so I am watching Reggie Bush play and all I have heard from the football drafters is how good he is. The Herald has a GREAT article about organic foods and it's ability to feed the world through "organic" means. In our hypothetical situation here we will take global warming as our issue. Now We give one grant to a scientific community to find out how much the earth has warmed in the last 100 years. We take the other grant and give it to a team and tell them we want to know how much the earth has cooled in the last 100 years. The results will always be the same. Team A will say that the earth is warming, team B will say the earth is cooling. Scientists are always given a goal in a study and then will use any means to find the conclusion that the paying party wants. Give me enough money and I will get a team of scientists to claim the earth is flat. As much as they claim to distance themselves from money and "seek the truth" scientists fall under the category of capitalists in a non-capitalistic endeavor. Money is not made in science of theories and such, science is made in creation of goods and services. Global warming studies do not make goods or services (unless you happen to be a democrat....), but to secure their current and future funding they will go to any means to say it happens even when there is contradictory evidence otherwise.

Stem cell funding is another one. Many scientists backed their claim that embryo stem cells were going to be the next miracle cure, that nothing was better poised to revolutionize the medical industry and they based this off of one Korean mans work, work that now turns out to be faked. The mainstream science rebuked stem cell lines for many years saying that fully developed stem cells were just as good if not better and invitro stem cells were the same as embrionic lines...I cannot recall how many times I was called an idiot or a moron for sticking up to the fact that these stem cell lines weren't any better and were no miracle cure.

Scientists find what they are paid to find and until that goes away, we will never have true science.

Ooops!

As reported by the Yorkshire Post, the "ozone hole" has had its' 20th anniversary. The biggest crock in antarctic history has been celebrated with this...

And while the original discoverers still keep a watchful eye on what lies
above – this year's hole was one of the largest on record – for the first time in more than a decade, they claim they may be seeing not the beginning of the end for the hole, but, to paraphrase Churchill, perhaps the very start of the end of the beginning.

So what are we to conclude? The Montreal Protocals banned 96 different "ozone-depleting" chemicals yet we have NOTHING to indicate that they have helped. Now notice how the scientists work here to scare you. The ozone "hole" is not a permanent fixture. It appears in the spring and is gone by the fall. Now I dont know about anything else that happens like that...In fact it has been described by many scientists as a repair phase of the ozone and the hole is naturally occuring. But now, after all these good chemicals have been banned is most developed countries, chemicals that were better that the replacement ones of today, we see the LARGEST hole on record. So now that a space shuttle has exploded because of faulty panels brought about by this eco-scare we see that they were wrong. And yet none have the balls to admit THEY WERE WRONG. Science has become a tool and is not about doing whats right, but about doing whats easy.

I'll detail that tomorrow.

Top 10 from 2005

Starting my envirowacko series here is the top 10 wacko scares from 2005 as done by Steve Milloy at junkscience.com

It’s that time of year again when we at JunkScience.com reflect on all the dubious achievements and irresponsible claims made by the junk science community throughout the year.

These “lowlights” have a lot in common — namely exaggeration and hidden agendas — but they cover a diverse range of scientific themes, from child development to embryonic stem cell research to everyday radiation exposure to trying to lay blame for hurricanes.

Although virtually the entire “Top 10” could easily consist of global warming items — climate hysteria being the most important junk science issue of our time — in the interest of diversity, JunkScience.com’s Top 10 for 2005 are:

1. Obese Statistics Get Liposuction. After years of alarming the American public with ever-scarier estimates of obesity-related deaths, the Centers for Disease Control finally backed away from its exaggerated 2004 claim of 400,000 deaths annually and made a 93 percent downward adjustment to just 25,814 deaths. It’s not clear that even that number can stand up to scrutiny. Read more...

2. Cruelty to Students. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) was permitted to incorporate its radical animal rights school curriculum throughout America via its “education” arm known as TeachKind. PETA’s “learning materials” claim that such innocuous behavior as drinking milk is an example of “animal cruelty,” which their Web site repeatedly claims is an unmistakable predictor of future adult psychopathy. Read more…

3. U.N.-natural disasters? In a bid to blame alleged global warming for hurricanes and tsunamis and, ultimately, to force the deep-pocket U.S. government, businesses and taxpayers to pick up the tab for damages from such climatic phenomena, the United Nations conspicuously dropped the word “natural” from the title of its annual conference on natural disasters. Read more…

4. Burger Baloney. Researchers from the National Cancer Institute and the American Cancer Society, looking into whether beef consumption could be linked to increased risk of colon cancer, published a study in January with apparently alarming conclusions. Closer examination, however, revealed more creative slicing and dicing of data by a few researchers at the NCI who seem to have a history of publishing anti-meat research. Read more…

5. Franken-movie, not Franken-food. An anti-biotech “crockumentary” entitled “The Future of Food” opened in small movie theaters around the country, resuscitating environmentalists’ long-discredited claims about the “dangers” of biotech crops, one of the most thoroughly tested and regulated technologies ever developed.

Tragically, the Green’s anti-biotech mania continues to doom millions in the Third World to blindness caused by nutritional deficiency. Read more…

6. Afraid-iation? In July, a National Academy of Sciences research panel ominously announced that there is no safe exposure to radiation. While this may sound intuitively plausible, the panel ignored a host of facts, including that 82 percent of the average person’s exposure to ionizing radiation is natural and unavoidable – coming at low levels from the universe and the ground – and that, other than slightly higher cancer rates among the Japanese atomic bomb survivors, there are no data to support the idea that typical exposures are dangerous. Read more…

7. Warning: This Label Based on Junk Science. In July, the Center for Science in the Public Interest petitioned the FDA to require warning labels on soft drinks. It seems the “food police,” who have no credible scientific data on which to base their petition, are out to demonize just about every food other than soy milk and bulgar wheat. Read more…

8. Stem Cell Fast-One. August headlines touted the latest breakthrough in stem cell research – Harvard researchers announced they had discovered a way to fuse adult skin cells with embryonic stem cells, effectively bypassing the ethical concerns surrounding stem cell research by not having to produce or destroy human embryos.

In reality, the hype was not only premature — since the new cells were still contaminated with embryonic genetic material — it appears to have been an exercise in political science as the Senate neared consideration of a bill that would circumvent President Bush’s funding limitations for embryonic stem cell research. Read more…

9. The Lone-Tree Theory. It nearly took an act of Congress to get the researcher behind the notorious “hockey stick” graph, which purports to show a steep rise in global temperature in the 20th century following a millennium of stable temperatures, to release his publicly funded data and computer code. Among other dubious presumptions, the graph is derived from data that bases climate estimates for the entire 15th century on the tree ring measurements of a single tree. Read more…

10. Baby Bottle Battle. In introducing a bill to ban toys and child care articles made with the chemical bisphenol-A (BPA), California State Assemblywoman Wilma Chan fell prey to an environmentalist-perpetuated myth that had long ago been debunked. The “endocrine disruptor” scare has been perpetuated by the unsubstantiated and irreproducible scientific claims of an activist-researcher long-determined to frighten the public away from perfectly safe products. Read more…

So fasten your safety belts for 2006. No doubt the future holds many more not-so-great “junk science” moments for us all.

This couldnt wait for January either...

I almost doubled over when I read this:

It is now obvious that the climate is changing, because the ice takes a long time to freeze and the sun rises from a different direction these days. I will give you a minor preview today. This will be in addition to other little tidbits that I run accross, but I feel that in the COLDEST WINTER SINCE THE 1800's, I need to fight these global warming morons.

Now today let us look at global warming as an issue. Now, there is something to be said about companies that dump sludge and known harmful chemicals into the air, but a company burning coal, oil or other resource as such is not killing you. In fact according to the former chairmen of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Bert Bolin, those clouds of "pollutants" actually prevent the sun from putting heat into the atmosphere. Now correct me if I am wrong (I am not, but I should always preface these kind of things), but isn't coal carbon that has been supercompressed? So when you burn coal it released the carbon back into the atmosphere as a cloud of smoke. There is carbon in those clouds. So the UN's own IPCC is saying that even though carbon is trapping heat in the atmosphere and causing a "greenhouse effect" it is also blocking the sun.

Am I the only one who sees the stupidity in this statement?

Ice Age

What movie? A cop gets out and gives me a warning for expired tabs. Oops, my bad. However also in the warning she notes that my license isn't registered to my new address (it was in fact 2 previous addresses, but I didnt tell her that) and I didn't have a proof of insurance with me. Now let me state emphatically here that I havent carried insurance in 3 years. Mostly because the cost is ridiculous, but also because I am an overly cautious driver. I dont get into accidents, in fact I have even avoided accidents that other people would have caused by hitting me. I am a DAMN good driver. I also dont care for the government to keep tabs on my residence. If they dont like that my residency is old on my license, they can really kiss my ass. I have no reason to pay them $20 a year to get a new license if I move then every 5 or so years another $40 for a renewal. I'll change my license when you take that 35% of my wages and apply it to you "fees". Tabs are a waste of time and money, simply a luxury tax hidden into purchasing a car when it is almost essential to own one in these times.

Alrighty whatever, I get insurance that night, I get tabs and change my license earlier this week and I go to the police station to clear the warning. The gal grabs all my stuff, signs off on everything without checking deeper into it, but tells me that I need to put my tabs on in front of an officer. OK, whatever. I wait as she gets the officer and it is the same one who pulled me over, great we can get this done and over with. She tells me she needs to make a copy of my insurance card....I give it over and she goes back inside. About 25 minutes later she comes out and says "You're lucky it's Christmas" and proceeds to tell me that since I got insurance after I should have my license revoked and a fine and blah blah blah....But she's going to let me off. Then closes with the mafioso warning "I know what car you drive and I know where you live, so if I see you you better still have insurance."

I almost punched her square in the nose. If she pulls me over to FIND something wrong, I will drive off on her, no question. But then telling me she knows where I live almost cut it. This is a cop in another city, who followed me for over a mile into a different city without lights on or anything to pull me over. I doubt she'll ever read this, but if she does, I want her to know that she can burn in hell.

Now, there are several lessons we shall learn here today now that I have shared that background. First, the government should not be asserting anywhere a private enterprise as a mandated service. It is not mandated that you have water, electricity, phone or homeowners insurance. It is not mandated that bikers, pedestrians, gun owners, boats, planes, or trains have insurance. So why is it on cars? Why are we allowed to assume risk on those other popular transportation forms and not on others? If I chose to carry insurance, that's fine, but to mandate it is something that is criminal. We take risks in our every day lives, why is it that we are forced to not assume risk for cars. If everyone who drove and got into accidents had to pay for their own faults, there would be a lot less drivers and a lot less accidents.

Seat belt laws also irk me. Again, I have to wear something because you think it's good for me, but then turn around and REVOKE HELMET LAWS ACCROSS THE NATION FOR MOTORCYCLES!? Give me a break.

Anyways, this is a long rant about a mafia police officer and their insistance that instead of solving a murder case, or stopping some sort of actual crime against a person, they are better off collecting revenue from a taxpayer. Take for instance the fact that their rape rate is higher than the national average... Seriously. I have never been there and I hope to visit every other area in the world, but New York is once place I do not ever want to go to. Case in point is the snobs that work the transit union going on strike. UPS pilots even decided against going on strike sortly before the Christmas shipping season in a sense of decency. Of course the fair New Yorkers decided to go on strike.

Rightfully so a judge slapped a 1 million dollar a day fine against these bastards and is enforcing a 2 day no-pay clause in the city laws. Also each picketing transit employee is subject to jail time.

This affirms my belief that no union, anywhere in this nation, is currently serving the needs of the people they claim to represent, the needs of the consumer they pretend to "protect" and is a clear agent of anti-capitalism.

Computer Woes

I finally replaced the motherboard I fried a month or so ago, so no updates tonight, just a lot of fresh installing and tweaking of my new system to get it to the "just right" set up

Somehow, the NYT misses the point.....again

The New York Times is reporting that wire taps on international calls and email were conducted by the government through presidential order afte Sept 11th. The Iraqi election will be even more successful than the p revious one as everyone knows the people want to become a democracy. I am happy, however one of my co-workers grabbed my attention today and while I didn't have time to try to talk sense into him, I got the jist of his premise.

His premise? Americans sacraficed is just too many. Now I cant fault him because I agree, too many Americans have died, but they died for a cause that is needed. He also insisted that we need to send a message to the people that if any more serivce men die, we are going to pull them all. While this is a great message and threat to get more people to turn them in, I made the analogy to the mob. The choice is to tell on the terrorists and your family dies, a gruesome death, or your family lives and the country falls back into a facist state. Given the options, I would prefer to have my family.

Aside from that, we need a stable Iraq regardless of the cost. casualties are dropping and a revolution of freedom is sweeping a region that has never seen the ability to govern themselves. This is an option we cant lose.

Too Much

It doesnt show up so well all compressed so just click on it for a nice big view on a white background

Oh ho ho ho.....

70% some percent of Iraqi's think things are going well, thats a higher percentage than Americans who think things are going well over there. Amazingly the politics was fairly well kept out of the movie directly. I was surprised at how head on the whole thing was. It quite accurately described my feelings on the international mergers, buy outs, oil wells and what not. The rules are set up so as to hurt ourselves even though we dont want that. So we take a blind eye to the rest of the world while pretending to do something. We sacrafice a few people in a corporation to push through something that will benefit us. The one part I do disagree with in the movie though is that the US propped up a man who would be a dictator rather than the son who wanted to free the people. The choice was a free country and oil to the highest bidder, who happened to be China, or oil for us and a dictatorial state. I am quite sure, especially since we get no oil from the middle east countries like Saudi Arabia, that we would prop a democracy who would then be a little more loyal to us in the end.

All in all a good movie, more worth renting or going to the dollar theater when it moves there.

Surprise surprise...

Daniel Inouye [D-Hi] is attacking the president over the new ad running on the GOP's website claiming that it "is a shameful and disgusting attempt to distract the American people from the problems in Iraq" oh but never mind that we democrats arent facing the reality of the progress in Iraq. Of course thought idiots took out in droves to America and we find drudge posting some stories of people getting trampled. Now that you have come out and shown your stupidity by pissing around Walmart telling them how terrible they are, maybe you should look at yourself. This is the most wonderful time of the year and what are you doing? You are being greedy as hell. I dont wake up at 2 AM to get these deals for a number of reasons. First, I dont get up that early.....EVER. Second, there is no deal worth the hassle of dealing with the 2% pondscum of human beings that are there for these deals. No discount is worth the crowds, worth my time. I actually picked up the entire 3 Seasons of "24" for $60, which is a great deal. I walked in at 7:15 this morning and was out by about 7:50 and to work only moments later (I love working next to best buy). I may go out this weekend and pick up some DVD's, I havent decided yet although I really want Kicking and Screaming so we will see.

Shame on you all for being so selfish this time of year and for trying to HURT others to fulfill your greed. Of course rather than just shoot this down and leave it stuck in committee, the Republicans scooped up the bill and forced it to the floor for a vote where it was soundly defeated. But many had to take stances that would be detrimental to their campaigns. Well simply put he is a deserter from the US army. Last march he took a bid to get asylum in Canada. His hearing happened and his first argument was that he would be prosecuted for deserting the Army. This little chicken shit thought that Canada, liberal as it may be, would give him asylum from breaking the law and his contract? His second excuse was that he would not fight in an "illegal and immoral war". Even the liberal Canadians don't buy it and said no. He is now on his final appeal which takes place in December.

Now, even though I pretty much detest what they did in Vietnam, I can understand it. The draft is a hard thing and even though I would go if called, they didn't. The difference is that this man CHOSE to join the Army, knowing full well that he would be called to action. He signed a contract with the Army and he knew the consequences should he break it. Following his logic I should go rob a bank, claim I would be prosecuted in the states and that I was only robbing an illegal and immoral capitalism machine.

I don't think even the most liberal Canadian judge will grant this slime sanctuary. If he did, it would eliminate any relations we had with Canada. I think the Canadians are tied close enough with France to realize what happened when the French didn't go along with the war in Iraq, and if they think that covering for this pool of human scum will do anything but harm their economy, they are sadly mistaken.

Apparently I am Naturaly Smart

Naturally Smart

You're a naturally smart person. It will force the Democrats to come out of the shadows and either stand up and be heard or fall back and fall flat as they cannot make the most minor of battles a victory. Unfortunately this means that the Republicans will also have to make the same decision. It is experience that tells me somehow they will both fall flat. Remember the infamous gang of 16? Something along those lines.

So here is the deal. To all who support either side, you need to take a stand. As most of you know the French have been on fire for a good long time. I am sure the media is doing a great job of making the whole thing seem bigger than it is, but come on. We have never had "race riots" like this in the US ever. We send the police in mass numbers to quell the resistors and shut the thing down. I mean look at Katrina, while there were problems yes, they were minor compared to whats going on over there.

But let this not fool anyone, this is a Islamic play to hold grip on France. The rest of the EU for that matter too. If they can move into a country like this and turn sections, whole provinces into their own mini-middle east and no one stops them then why should they follow the other rules? This is a mere attempt to overthrown the rules and laws. Just watch, there will be deomstrations shunning officials in France telling them how terrible they are for letting it happen, how terrible that the situation ever existed and then finally seperation for muslims so that this wont ever happen again.

This ranks 7 out of 10 on the bullshit meter.

So it beings...Laptop Blogging Day 1

Fear not loyal readers. Better test scores. How long do you think this can last?

Well it has been working since Orono schools were started, amazingly it continues to work that way. In their own chart it shows that Minneapolis spends $2,000 more PER STUDENT and achieves the LOWEST test scores in the state. Alright, so we have already established that less money equals better test results. Their own charts show this. So why are they begging for money?

Our children will NOT have the technology skills preparing them for the future.

Oh, poor Jimmy will have to use a P3 instead of a P4.....

Our schools risk CLOSINGS due to boiler failures.

This because you cannot get an extra $250 per household in the district? Listen, if y you cannot budget normal maintenance costs, you shouldn't be in charge of our children's education. Plain and simple.

A potential DROP in property values.

You know what will cause a drop in property values? High taxes. Not a potential drop, but a guaranteed drop in property values.

I have a solution for every damn school district in the nation. First, cut the bullshit. You do not need "counselors" in every classroom. If there is a school shooting or something, you can hire one temporarily, but it is not an every day need. These people are dead weight, cut them. Class sizes do not make results. If class sizes translated to the ability to learn then college is totally worthless with their 100+ class sizes. Give teachers larger class sizes and the ability to discipline the students who misbehave. Expel the ones who cause constant problems. Then, link the teachers salary to the standardized tests. If your class scores 0, you get 0% of your salary. Now for all you total moronic out there who preach "Well then they are just teaching for the tests" WELL NO SHIT! If they have to learn basic addition and subtraction for the tests, you are telling me that is a bad thing? There is a reason we have tests. It is to gauge the knowledge of the children and track their development. They still need to learn because the teachers don't know the test answers before hand so they cant just teach 1+1=2, they need to teach everything.

Lastly, cut administration. Most districts can do with half their current staff easily. At the last public school I went to, there were 5 office workers. They could have gotten by with 2, possibly 1. How much more proof do you need? Foreign countries do it with 1/4 what we spend, other schools in the nation do it with less, now even the schools in the same general geographic area are doing it with less. Cut the crap.

Is there anything worse than spin?

A friend of mine informed me that they were watching a movie called "The Corporation". There is a link, but I don't really feel like giving them to hit from my site. Anyways...I had seen the preview but didn't really care watch it months ago but I thought to myself "Hey, there must be a website I can look at". Of course there is. This film prominently portrays people like Noam Chomsky (a man who has never worked outside of a school) as experts on corporations. I have several grips with this movie, but for the sake of time, I will list just a few things that really irk me.

Akre-Wilson vs FOX News. This is a pretty simple story. The two journalists were doing a story on BGH, a hormone given to cows to increase their milk making ability but also led to infections in the utters. So they used an antibiotic with the hormone to prevent the cows from contracting this infection. The antibiotic was then passed to humans who drank the milk and it lowered our tolerance against that particular infection. That was how the story was written. FOX editors said that they would not let the story run like that. They had to rewrite it to remove that last sentence. The two said no and were promptly dismissed. They filed suit against FOX alleging that they were trying to "whistle-blow" and a jury found in favor of them.

So far so good right? Well the film alleges that the suit was dismissed by a "technicality". What is it you ask? Well rather than tell people why the suit was dismissed, they gloss over it. The suit was dismissed because BY LAW, to file a suit by "whistle-blowing" the activity has to be illegal. There is an amendment protecting the press to say what they want, even if they know it to be untrue. If this were the case you wouldn't have magazines that say "Aliens landed on the White House lawn" or "Bigfoot found in Disco". The court then found that the duo knew that this was the case and ordered them to repay FOX their 1.8 million in court costs. Who would have thought filing a frivolous lawsuit against a corporation because you got fired for not doing your job would get you deeper in the hole?

They then compare a corporation to a human being calling it "Pyschotic". Yes because we know there is one person who is the corporation. There is a man called "Best Buy" who rules the corporation. He has a "pyschotic" personality. Trying to use pyschology on a corporation is like trying to get to mars by riding a bicycle.

These people need to seriously look at their anti-capitalism, anti-wealth views. If they don't like corporations, that's fine, but to produce a movie to bash them in such a manner is retarded.

Interview with Rush Limbaugh

A good well rounded interview posted by the Political teen. We feel for our brothers because they did not know the error of their ways. Of course I am kidding, there is no evidence of life on Venus, unless you ask the EU. Unreal? I'll let you decide:

Venus Express, equipped with seven instruments, is intended to map the Venusian surface and weather system, looking at temperature variation, cloud formations, wind speeds and gas composition.

  Its main goal is to help understand why Venus fell prey to runaway global warming.

Oh yes. Today of course, I came across a particularly interesting one.

mail.greenbergresearch.com/webmail/email/......

So, always curious who is coming to me, I click the link and it brings me to a web access login for a mail server. No problem I think, I can just go to greenbergresearch.com. And I did and I found this:

Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research (GQR) has over two decades of experience in helping Democrats win races at every level, from County Sheriff to the President of the United States. In these battles, we have pioneered the use of strategic polls, focus groups, dial-response meters, advanced targeting and tracking surveys, and now web and Internet surveys. We help candidates campaign, win, govern effectively - and then win again.

Wow. The democrats strategy team is emailing each other about me! This of course is sloppy work as I have been getting a pick up of no reference links which can only mean A) Word of mouth is spreading (stop laughing you in the back, and the front.....) or B) they are people intentionally trying to cover their tracks rather than leave a link trail back to me.

Either way I see the dems are worried about little ole me and it makes me all warm and fuzzy inside to know that a political strategy group is keeping tabs on me.

Hi guys, you will lose next year just like you lost last year....I didnt see that on your website.
